Welcome!
Béziers is an ideal and affordable starting point to discover the Lanquedoc region, the Canal du Midi, the vineyards and the sea. The airport is only 10 Km from the city and is serviced by the low-cost carriers Ryanair and Flybe. Also, the Béziers train station is a stop for all trains heading east - west along the southern coast of France. The Béziers region of France is beautiful; come see for yourself why 96,7% of visitors to this area are planning to come back again! (page 31). Relax Rentals offers modern quality bicycles which are well maintained and fully serviced before and after each rental period.
Enjoy cycling around Béziers, visit and ride in the wine country, cruise along the Canal du Midi, or head straight south to our local beaches on flat land cycle tracks. The area north of Béziers is more mountainous and offers the more adventurous cyclist the challenge of cycling hills; the views are spectacular.
Our location offers the cyclist or visitor to Béziers options of tours to meet most peoples' requirements. There are kilometers of paths through the vineyards to explore. You can go from village to village or to the sea through the vineyards and via Canal du Midi.
Right above the Tunnel de Malpas you can find one of the most important Gaulish villages in the South of France: L'Oppidum d'Ensérune. This settlement was occupied without interruption between the 6th Century BC and 1st Century AD. The last settlers of this hilltop were the Romans. As mentioned earlier, the Voie Domitienne passes below this hilltop, on its way from Italy to Spain. On the downhill side of Malpas, is another curiosity, a labyrinth made out of hemp plants. This is the Labyrinthe Vegetal Carbelina. This labyrinth is open from 10AM to 8PM everyday from July 5th to September 4th. It covers 2 hectares, and you can discover among other things, the "history of the elixer of dreams," as printed on their flyer. Close to the Nine Locks of Fonseranes is a not well known curiosity of Béziers; a display of animated puppets. This display is called the Creche Animee de Fonseranes. The display was started in 1937 and has been build by two Christian monks. The display is only open Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from 14H30 to 16H30. Another exciting option is to rent a bike, drive down to the train station (400 meters from our shop), hop on a train heading to Agde (25 Km), Sète (50 Km), Carcassonne (100 Km), or anywhere, and cycle back to Béziers. The great thing about the trains here in France is that they accept bicycles for free. Bicycles usually go onto the last wagon of the train. It is recommended to check availability before hand if the train you are interested in will take bicycles, since not 100 percent of trains can take bicycles. One can check online or simply ask inside the train station. See our page Train and Bus for links. |
